Dr. Vengal Ipe Varghese, born in the year 1955 hails from the beautiful lands of the God's Own Country, Kerala. He is a native of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. Dr Ipe graduated his Dental degree in the year 1977 and Master's degree in Oral Pathology in the year 1986 from the Government Dental College, Trivandrum. He joined the Kerala Government service in 1979 and after serving in various posts eventually retired as Principal, Government Dental College, Calicut. It is worth mentioning here that, during his tenure, he was instrumental in starting the postgraduate master's degree program in Oral Pathology within the state in the Government Dental Colleges, Trivandrum and Calicut. He is one of the dental professional who was fortunate to reach the prestigious posts including the Controller of Examinations and the Registrar, Kerala University of Health Sciences. Currently, he is working as Dean at P.S.M. College of Dental Sciences, Thrissur, Kerala.

Dr Ipe was an active member of the Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP) from its early days. He has held the honorable post of President IAOMP in the year 2009. He was the kingpin in hosting two national conferences of the Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists in the state of Kerala, one at Calicut (2005), and the other at Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram (2019), with the portfolios as Organizing Secretary and the Patron respectively. Currently, he is the advisor to IAOMP.

He had initiated the Kairali society of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists 15 years back in Kerala with the motto of improving academic interactions among oral pathologists within the state. Dr Ipe was very much the vital person behind the starting of Self-financed dental colleges in Kerala. He has also made remarkable contributions to the growth of the Indian Dental Association, Kerala Chapter.

Some of his other credentials are: subject expert of UPSC and PSC of Government of Kerala; President, Kerala Dental Council; member of NAAC and UGC; examiner to various universities and inspector, Dental Council of India. He is the recipient of Best Doctor award of Government of Kerala, and Best Teacher award of Calicut University. He is also the recipient of Best Teacher award of Malayala Manorama and Air India.

The key factor which makes him unique is his down to earth attitude, compassion toward his fellow colleagues and the special ability to mingle with people of all age groups. We salute this legendary Oral Pathologists from Kerala for his tremendous contributions and will always be remembered as an academician, an able administrator and a man with tremendous enthusiasm.
