Prof. (Dr.) Veera Roseline Brave, popularly known as Brave madam, was born in July 1941. After outstanding performance at school leaving Higher Secondary level, she joined Nair Hospital Dental College (NHDC), Mumbai, as a BDS student in 1966.

After completion of BDS course of studies in 1972, she joined MDS in Oral Pathology at the same institute in 1973, under the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.) D K Daftary from University of Bombay.

After finishing her MDS in 1975, she joined as a lecturer in the Department of Oral Pathology from 1970 to 1982 and also served as Associate Professor from 1982 to 1991 at NHDC, Mumbai, under the leadership of Dr. A P Bhatt. Subsequently, she was promoted as Professor and Head, Department of Oral Pathology, from 1992 to 1997.

After her superannuation, she served as a Principal and Head of Oral Pathology Department at P. M. N. M. Dental College and Hospital, Bagalkot, Karnataka, from 1998 to 2001, where she played an important and active role in initiating postgraduate course in various disciplines of dentistry.

After successful endeavor at Bagalkot, she joined as the Dean at Dr. D. Y. Patil Dental College, Nerul, Navi Mumbai, for about 9 years from 2001 to 2009. She continued to serve as Professor and Head of Oral Pathology at Kothiwal Dental College, Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, from 2009 to 2011.

She was a part of DCI and LIC dental inspection conducted in various dental colleges of India. She has been an internal as well as an external examiner for BDS and MDS courses at various institutes in Maharashtra, as well as in Goa, Mangalore, Ahmedabad and Bangalore.

She has also served as a Past President of Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists in 2000.

Prof. (Dr.) V R Brave was very much interested in academics; hence, along with her busy schedule, she has done a teaching job for 41 years and continued to work till her retirement. During her academic career promotions, she helped to her maximum capacity to labor staff, office staff, teaching staff, as well as students. As a person, she was cordial with her colleagues and struck a chord with all those who came in contact with her. She had a good team to work with for raising colleges to present standards.

She is blessed with a daughter Kate and an Endodontist son Dr. Dexter.
